Shooting an abandoned church respectfully

I recently photographed an abandoned church with my Fujifilm X-E1. As I made my way through the building and the grounds, I knew I wanted to write a quick blog post about treating sites like these with respect.

Quick note: I discovered this gem of a location via the Ireland In Ruins blog – worth a look if you’re interested in similar locations across Ireland.

We all want to get out there and take photographs in interesting places, but we need to be conscientious of the places we go, how we treat them, and what they mean to other people.

While I took photographs on my Fujifilm X-E1, I also recorded some footage on my Fujifilm X-T4 for my YouTube channel. In the video, I mention that I made my way carefully around the graves.

This is important because, even though I’m not particularly religious myself and the church is ‘abandoned’, these are still the resting places of people who once lived.

The point is, when trying to get ‘the shot’, you should just be careful and considerate in doing so.

You can see the photos I took here, and check out the video I made here.
